Thousands of years ago

Ancient Roots

Indigenous cultures used ceremonial mushrooms as sacred teachers — guiding healing, connection, and expanded states of consciousness.

1950s

“Magic Mushrooms” Enter the Western World

After joining a Mazatec ceremony in Mexico, R. Gordon Wasson wrote about his experience in Life Magazine. For the first time, the Western world heard about psilocybin mushrooms.

1960s

The First Wave of Research

Harvard and other institutions began studying psilocybin’s potential for depression, addiction, and end-of-life care. Early results were promising — until the counterculture sparked political backlash.

1970s

The Fall (Stigma & Criminalization)

The War on Drugs shut everything down. Mushrooms were banned, research was halted, and stigma took root.

2000s

The Science Awakens

Decades later, universities like Johns Hopkins restarted rigorous studies. Their findings confirmed what ancient wisdom always knew: psilocybin can heal and transform.

2010s

The Psychedelic Renaissance

Culture caught fire. Podcasters, authors, and filmmakers brought mushrooms back into the conversation. Curiosity grew, stigma starts to fade, and people began to imagine new possibilities.

The We Grow Magic Era

We started because something was missing. People wanted mushrooms they could trust — grown with care, tested for potency, and paired with real knowledge. But there wasn’t a safe, reliable place to find them. So we built it. We Grow Magic exists to give people what we couldn’t find ourselves: medicine you can trust, information that empowers you, and a community that’s growing together.
